Job Description
NBC 6 has a great opportunity for a storyteller who loves sports to combine both in a fast-paced city that has a lot of sports action. This role is a mix of a sports anchor and reporter/MMJ who can find and produce character-driven stories, secure big interviews with sports-newsmakers and be on top of developments impacting local teams and players.
If you want to always anchor in studio fronting VO highlights from yesterday and sound from the podium, this is not the job for you. We want someone who understands how to cover sports as news, someone who can pitch top-block sports stories and knows how to tell stories that can make sports relatable to a general TV news audience. This role requires the ability and willingness to MMJ and produce sportscasts, special shows and sports segments as needed in addition to producing content for appropriate digital/social media platforms.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Produce and host weekly “Sports Final” show.
- Pitch and execute story ideas from start to finish -- Shoot, write and edit.
- Turn content on daily basis for newscasts with a focus on strong content over traditional hits in studio.
- Enterprise sports content.
- Produce sportscasts.
- Anchor 11pm sportscast, Sports Final and other sports specials as assigned.
- Help plan for daily and large sports coverage with producers, assignment desk and managers (including credentialing).
- Explore multi-platform options to build our brand to include but not limited to video podcast or long form interviews while abiding by sports video rights.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- B.A. degree or equivalent in Journalism & Communications, or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years anchoring and producing sports in a medium or large market for broadcast, digital and social media.
- Strong knowledge of the Miami sports market, teams and athletes.
- Ability to work quickly under tight deadlines in a live TV environment.
- Knowledge of sports video rights issues for various digital and broadcast platforms.
- Bilingual (English and Spanish) both written and spoken preferred.
- Strong work ethic and positive attitude.
- Must possess strong journalistic skills, have ability to write and edit broadcast and digital copy.
- Creative approach to storytelling and problem solving.
- Ability to make priority decisions under deadlines.
- Must be self-directed, highly organized and detail oriented.
- Must function well in a fast paced, multi-cultural environment.
Requirements:
- Must have a flexible schedule with an ability to work non-traditional hours, including nights, weekends, holidays and during breaking news emergencies including hurricanes as needed.
- Must be willing to work in Miramar, FL
- Must be 18 years or greater.
- Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.
- Must be covered by Solutions, NBCU’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Program.
